Faith and the City Symposium

faithandthecity_logo_long.jpg

16 June 2007, Winnipeg, Manitoba

Where do faith and the city intersect? What does faith in the city look like? On June 16th in Winnipeg, Jonathan Chaplin will be challenging us to consider those questions at the Faith and the City symposium. Dr Chaplin is the first director of the Kirby Laing Institute for Christian Ethics at Tyndale House in Cambridge, England. He is a specialist in Christian political thought, and has given much deliberation to issues of faith and the city. Some may know Dr Chaplin from his tenure at the Institute for Christian Studies in Toronto, and his involvement as Senior Fellow of the Work Research Foundation.

This event is hosted by the Salvation Army Ethics Centre. It will bring together people who are engaged with these issues and under Dr Chaplin’s leadership they will grapple with the everyday challenges of living faith in the living organism of the city. There will be opportunity to hear Dr Chaplin’s thoughts, to discuss concepts with him and to participate in round-table discussions.

Connected with the Faith and the City symposium is a territory-wide youth challenge - sponsored by Booth College and the Ethics Centre. We’re asking for youth between the ages of 13 and 19 to consider what Faith and the City looks like to them - in words, or art, or sculpture, or music, or dance, or any other form of artistic expression. Entries will be exhibited at the symposium and the Celebration 1-2-5 weekend, and there are plans for a ‘virtual’ exhibition online as well.

Registration for the Faith and the City symposium can be done through registration with Celebration 1-2-5 or through the Ethics Centre directly. Cost for the event is $35 and includes a buffet brunch. If you've got any questions regarding Faith and the City, or need more information, please don't hesitate to email us or give us a call at 204-957-2412.
